If you will be leaving New Ulm Public Schools at the end of the school year, please see below for some important information.

Your student Google account will remain active until mid-September.


You have two options for taking your Google content with you:


Google Takeout

You may download all of your Google content via their Takeout service (Link to Google Takeout).

  1. Select the content you wish to save.
    • Make sure the content you want to download is "on," as indicated by a green check mark.
    • Modify how the files are downloaded via the down arrow near the check. For example, clicking on the arrow in the "Contact" line will allow you to change the contact file format from vCard to CSV.
  2. Click "Next."
  3. Accept the defaults and click "Create archive."


Your archived data may take a while to show up, from a few minutes to a few days depending on how much data you have in your account. This data you can then download and put on a personal account, a USB drive, etc.

Google Transfer

If you have your own personal Gmail account, you can transfer much of your school account to that account via their Transfer service (Link to Google Transfer).


  1. Enter in the personal Gmail you want to transfer your data to and click "Send Code."
  2. Your personal account will receive a code and you will verify that it is the correct account.
    • If you are doing this on a school Chromebook, you will need to switch between your accounts.
    • You may find it easier to have your personal Gmail open on your smartphone or on another device for easy access to the code.
  3. Select what items you would like to transfer.


This doesn't transfer absolutely everything, but is the easier way. 

Feel free to do a Transfer and then a Takeout for an additional backup, if you would like.

Important Notes:

Neither Takeout nor Transfer includes Drive files you do not own. If you wish to download those files, follow the directions here: Download my Google Drive files.


Takeout and Transfer are making copies of your files. If you change a file in your student account after doing a Takeout or Transfer, the changes won't be seen on your backup/transfer copy. You'll want to re-download any changed files that you wish to keep.
